Turkish Federation of Breast Diseases Societies (MHDF) is a coordination institute which was established on approval and selection by management boards of local Breast Societies completed organization structuring in Turkey, ensures coordination of national organization and will be operated by general board elections to be performed once in every two years.
Why MHDF was incorporated?
A substantial and healthy organization was aimed by bringing breast societies in our country and person and institutions interested in breast diseases together. In this end, aiming to ensure inter-personal and inter-organization cooperation and collaboration, MHDF was founded to overcome problems arising from irregularity of issues related with breast diseases and to reach contemporary targets. In addition to aforementioned academic purposes, it was also aimed to increase awareness of Turkish population on breast diseases and to put various programs for obtaining better healthcare services into force.
How was MHDF founded?
A leading decision was made towards integration in the meeting held by participation of relevant societies and clinics located and operating at İstanbul, İzmir, Ankara and Bursa throughout 6th National Breast Diseases Congress held in 2001. Prof. Dr. Semih Başkan was assigned to undertake charter and protocol studies under title of Breast Societies Coordination Committee (BSCC). Managers of all societies convened in Bursa on November 2001 were first to undersign a national protocol. Convening again in Bursa on March 2002 for final directive, societies agreed a cooperative, democratic, participatory and disciplined structuring based on a directive referred as "Bursa Protocol". Later, Kocaeli, Aydın and Güneydoğu (South Anatolian) societies participated to those societies continuing to operate under umbrella of BSCC. A decision was made during efforts of BSCC that a national Turkish Federation of Breast Diseases Societies pioneered by aforementioned founder societies would be incorporated and thus, efforts were started in this direction. Following completion of necessary charter and infrastructure studies, MHDF was officially founded on March 2007 and first general board meeting was held on 9 October 2007 during 9th National Breast Diseases Congress held in Ankara and thus, the Board selected the Steering Committee to be commissioned for two-year period.
How will MHDF operate?
Members of steering committee assigned as member of MHDF by management boards of breast societies shall be commissioned for 2 years under ordinary conditions. A general board meeting will be held during national congress organized once in every 2 years by participation of all societies' members. General Board will audit activities of MHDF in one side and it will determine recommendations and targets for next general board meeting on the other side. MHDF Steering Committee to be convened in regular intervals shall organize all national studies related with breast diseases and provide support to the studies conducted by local societies and organizations. As all societies are represented in the management structure of MHDF, they will all equally participate to decision making processes and activities.
MHDF will not only aid Mastology by organizing national breast congress once in every two years, but it will also conduct studies for developing common principles in the treatment of breast diseases and for ensuring unity of the treatment based on consensus symposiums to be held in the year congress is not held. Various social panels will be held throughout all scientific meetings and activities aiming to increase awareness of the public will be organized. Another purpose of the Federation is bring individuals previously suffered a breast disease, who voluntarily wants to work on this issue, together for providing social support required by individuals with a recently diagnosed breast cancer and to aid structuring of non-governmental organizations working as mentioned above. |
